7 Key Tips for Great Men’s Hair

You work hard to look your best. You take good care of your beard, skin and body. Cool, now let’s talk about hair. A sharp haircut is of little use if your hair isn’t strong and healthy. The following 7 tips will help you create a healthy, sustainable hair care routine that will have you feeling confident and looking great.

  • Choose a Hairstyle that Flatters Your Face

There’s nothing like a solid hairstyle to enhance your features and face shape. It is super important because your face is a major part of your personal brand and it’s the first thing the world sees. Just like with grooming and dressing, framing your face with an appropriate hairstyle means accentuating favorable features, exaggerating smaller dimensions and concealing larger ones. • Invest in natural hair products

Avoid hair products that rely on harsh chemical ingredients including petrochemicals, sulfates, parabens, phthalates, or silicones. Instead, treat your hair with products that cleanse gently and contain natural ingredients like beeswax, castor oil, vitamin E, and argan oil.

  • Use a conditioner

Shampoo alone won’t do the trick. The right hair conditioner will. Hair conditioner doesn’t just wash away oil and grime. It also nourishes your hair and scalp, replaces lost oils, promotes hair growth, protects and strengthens your hair’s cuticle and maximizes hair health. This leaves your hair moisturized, strong, and shinier over time.

  • Hot water then cold water

Start by rinsing and washing your hair with hot water and then switch to cold water. Hot water unclogs pores and opens hair cuticles making it easier to absorb shampoo and conditioner. You want to switch to cold water when you rinse the product out of your hair. Cold water seals the cuticles back up and locks in moisture from the conditioner.

  • Don’t overwash or over shampoo

Your scalp secretes healthy natural oils that nourish your hair, protect it and keep it healthy. Overwashing and using shampoo too often strips these oils out causing your hair to look dull, brittle and weak.

  • Keep your scalp clean

A healthy scalp is a clean scalp. An unclean scalp can cause increased bacteria population and inflammation, which negatively affects the follicles.

  • Dry your hair gently; don’t rub it

Gently towel-dry your hair, do NOT aggressively rub and pull at your hair with a towel. If you use a hair dryer, turn down the heat, keep the dryer moving and hold the dryer further away from your scalp.

  • Bonus: Avoid tight hats & Ponytails

‘Traction alopecia’ is hair loss caused by repeatedly pulling on your hair. Avoid tight hats, ponytails, buns, or braids.
